"yeah but selling “more” allows you to justify grifting your fans so you can buy cool new stuff like a house and a sauna"
No but the sauna was absolutely crucial to the recording process i swear

I feel like a 3 is too generous because I got about halfway through Storm and a voice in the back of my head went, "when is this gonna be over?" XD
It's alright. I don't know if it's even better than Time I. Just to make sure I spun the S/T immediately after this. Absolutely destroys it. Not even remotely close.

Yeah s/t is basically the best thing ever, really makes me wish their discog reflected that promise
Might drop this to a 3, after a whole bunch of spins time 1 is def better because time 1 had sons of winter and stars which is the goat song of the time albums

I really like one with the shadows, but can't get into the final two tracks at all. S/t will always rule

This band has always been in my peripherals, I listened to the debut a while back but never got super into the bands releases until Time II was approaching so this is really my starting point. This is nothing new in the realm of this style of music but everything is performed top notch and the perfection is in the details. I will revisit their debut and Time I today and see if this still is as impressive in comparison

Are all the traditional instruments on here programmed midi or true performances....or like half and half sort of thing?

i decided to do my own non-brickwalled master of time I and II in a seamless set and i'm enjoying this far far more now, but this review is still accurate for the commercially released version
i'd share it but it's wintersun's intellectual property so yeah lol
|

jari would probably sue you and start a kickstarter to recoup emotional damages so he could buy another sauna

i think one of the issues with listening to time I and II consecutively is the album blows its load so early - sons of winter and stars is absolutely the best song wintersun ever did. it never reaches that peak again and there's 73 minutes of material after it, a lot of which feels like empty space.
time i is so well paced whereas time ii relies on empty space and ambient to space everything out and there's just no need for it. individually the songs musically are (mostly) really cool - but they're all bloated.
imagine if silver leaves were cut in half, the ambient outro to storm cut out, the intro cut out and the whole project was just one 65~ minute record. the difference that would have made is unreal cus in music like this pacing is everything and this second half really messes with that.
i'm glad jari finished it - i'm glad i'm now enjoying it on a musical level and perhaps my review is closer to a 2 in reality but i still hold the opinion this is absolutely the weaker half and the way it was released butchered it on arrival.

God I fear this and the new Leprous are gonna be the hardest 2.5s ever for me. Well, the new Officium Triste sounds really good from what I've heard.. but I'm kind of stumped here because most of my favorite bands are falling off it feels like.
