Wish I liked this as much as you lol, but it's lacking imo. There's def some cool riffs and melodies throughout, but they just don't hit the way they should.
Disregarding their early stuff, songs like The Poison Well, Cathode Ray Sunshine, Out of Nothing, Empty Me, The Mundane and the Magic, The Sun Fired Blanks, Nether Novas, or even The Silence in Between or Immemorial from Construct -- those have way more creative riffs and the melodies are very strong, but this album just doesn't hit like that. Overall feels forgettable/like they're on autopilot idk.

A 4.5 damn. He must’ve rated their more classic records like 100/5.

I hate to break it to you, but he 2.5'd The Gallery so I wouldn't really say that.

The Gallery is really overrated even though I have it at 4. To me damage done, character and fiction are peak dt

I can honestly see why some people don't prefer it. It's not an easy listen and the production is kinda flat and takes some time getting used to. It just happens to have the most unique guitar work that you'll never find anywhere else

Gallery has riffs but sadly they just aren't hard enough < / 3

There's riffs everywhere but they riffed harder on Skydancer tbh

Might just be me and my preference for what I want from melodeath, but I've never really found Gallery that hard to get into. Maybe compared to their other beloved albums like Damage Done and Character sure, but on it's own not really. In either case I feel like Skydancer takes that spot due to multiple factors (the rawer, less accessible sound, Anders' vocals instead of Mikael's etc.), but everything else is incredible especially for the time and even those factors I mentioned before doesn't really bother me too much (except maybe the whole Anders vs Mikael lead vocals thing).

The production is a part of it. The sound with the guitars sound thin and dry is part of that 90’s melodeath sound I don’t like. His vocals no doubt get better on later albums and the female vocals are atrocious. Important album in the development of the genre though

I think the gallery suffers of many of the same problems as Opeth's Orchid does. it's just exaggerated, over the top and hard to get through

Gallery is amazing but flawed
Damage Done and Character are perfect

The 90s were the peak of death metal. The guitar tone was dope.

I have no desire to jam this lol.

Yeah don’t. “Wayward Eyes” was the only song I cared to add to a playlist on Spotify. Most of the record was forgettable and bland.
