Never felt a sunbather vibe here tbh. I also never felt the need to spin Deafheaven in quite a while

Just finished a full Saidan discog spin, including this one again. It's the best.

EP is kinda overrated. First album is great, not amazing. Onryo is where the really found their sound and knocked it out of the park. Awesome album, almost as good as this one, which is basically the natural evolution of and improvement on it.

"EP is kinda overrated"

Bad take

Onryo I and II are peak Saidan

Production tries to be raw but it's just annoying. Some solid riffs but it's the least interesting of all their stuff.

Eh agree to disagree I guess. I'd take the prod on the EP over this album tbh. This one sounds like they had a really clean sound going and then just ran it through a bunch of fuzz to keep the raw aesthetic going

Which is what I think makes it's their best production job and why I like it the most haha.

Lends a sort of mildly epic overtone that's unique to this one. So I can see why people who preferred their more striped down sound are turned off a little by it but that's exactly what puts it on top for me.

I just took a quick listen to a few mins of each album side by side and I think, production-wise, Jigoku might actually be my favourite even though it might rank last in terms of how much I like the actual songs on it

Yeah, Jigoku has a good balance prod-wise, totally get it.

And yeah, again, halfway through the year and there's been more good shit so far than the last several years combined. Next week is Ulcerate and the week after that Alcest. Like, holy fuck XD

It's insane, for me this is already metal's best year since 2016.

Spinning this again, Switchblade Paradise is so fucking good my goodness. Might have to bump this.
