I don't think Matt's vocals are bad by any stretch but I just feel like he sounds the same at all times. It's weird because I think this is pretty good but every song is just heavy heavy heavy non-stop until a bit in the second half and I get bored. I do like Face the Blade a lot.

It's only half an hour so it's fine they're just full force imo

Won't disagree but that's what gets them relegated to a playlist band for me.

Makes sense, your criticism is fair

I can see this growing on me and I might go see them live since my brother asked me to go with him so that could warm me up to this more. I will say the production is excellent and I like the Marcus Vic feature a lot.

“embarrassing for you ngl (@nash but tbh @hawks also)”
Not really, try as you might. Don’t you have an album no one else has heard (or wants to) to review?

I'm torn about how I feel about this album. The vocalist in pretty damn amazing, and while his lyrics are simple there's an honest brutality that makes them really powerful. But after a while the songs all sort of blend together.

Matt shows way more range here than he has in the past, so I find that criticism a little odd. It’s all a bit of similar tone but he definitely moves around a fair amount.

Idk man, other than hit occasional lows he sounds mostly monotonous to me. I don't mind screams that don't have a lot of range but the music has to make up for it and this is too chug happy to balance it out IMO. I listened to the album again walking around today and was able to pick out more of the guitar leads/melodies, so like I said, I can see it growing on me.
I wonder if it's all the extra distortion on the vocals that makes them sound samey to my ears.

This is 3.0-3.5 territory for me, I can't really call it average because the vocals and vibe are definitely darker and more angry than most metalcore, but the cleans and stereotypical breakdowns drag it a bit. Also some cringe lyrics at times.

Pale Light Lingers might still be my fav. Song does everything I enjoy about this style of metalcore.

Wish there was more melodic parts and spoken word sections like on Face the Blade and Inhale the Grief. The one thing holding this back for me but it still beats absolute ass

With more twinkly guitar work this could have been Controller 2.0.
