i love so much of it but so much also kind of turns into a monolithic mess that i have a hard time distinguishing

that said, i do kinda get why it drones in that direction, as the intent was most likely to be like an unstoppable onslaught of power and raw emotion. i just wish i could tell some of the songs apart

I really like this and I love droney shit. I like the post metal elements in this, I like the more furious blasted sections, I think it just falls short of having the memorable melodies and hooks of s-tier skramz. That’s not to say it’s not still an incredibly cathartic listen, it just kind of lacks the “holy shit” huge moments of some of the other genre torchbearers. As far as modern skramz goes, state faults crushes this for me

The holy shit moments for me largely involve that bass production. I don't think I've ever been so thrilled on bass for an album of this caliber.

i have always struggled with making music like this because of how difficult it is to properly mix

I do agree that it blends together as an album, but whenever I've picked out songs to listen to individually they've always felt complete by themselves. The only moment that is jarring is probably the feedback at the end of Monolith that leads into Refrain, they could of just ended the song, otherwise I love how this flows

I think I like Infant Island more, but this is pretty decent too.

Infant Island is very very sick but definitely this takes the cake for me

I guess this fulfills our one good screamo album per year quota. But jokes aside, I'm loving this so far. The trio of Devotion, Monolith, and Refrain especially, like holy hell those are great fucking songs.

Not famliar with this band at all
Last thing I was expecting was a 1994 Norwegian black metal riff opening. I suppose that's what punk and screamo bands do these days
Makes me feel pretty old, but I kind of like this
