NJ is mostly completely skippable. The OG records have aged pitifully except for scogin’s vocals and they all get trounced by better bands like botch or coalesce from the same era. The mid records are probably the best but I don’t think they have a single record I’d slap anything over a 3 on

People used to shit over how hard those songs were but Memphis will be laid to waste is a 6 minute long song with like 10 separate breakdowns. The songwriting is fuckin abysmal lol

Haven’t even felt like revisiting this album after the first couple days after release.

My favorite songs on this are A Prayer to the Holy Death and The Nihilist Undone. I've always liked DH's more melodic songs. Give me some melodeath riffs + some harmonized riffs and I am absolutely SOLD.

In that same thread, Godless Prophets didn't do much for me, it was just kinda all heavy with not a ton of variation.

@danny

Yeah that's kind of the vibe I got too. The riffs were sweet but there was a slight lack of dynamics that kinda made it pass me over.

In some weird way this record has made me appreciate Godless Prophets more. I never cared much for it before. It used to be "their last record which everybody thought was a massive comeback and I found sort of samey and grating." Now it's "that one record in their discog which is really heavy and grimy and that's kinda neat if I'm in the mood for that."

It's not just heavy though, so I don't get that criticism. I'd say its best melodic moments steamroll anything they did here in that area. The end of The Last of the Monuments? Fucking gorgeous. Not one moment on this album matches that imo.

Overall it's definitely their most aggressive album but I don't find it to be a one-trick pony at all.

Deathrattle just didn't scratch the itch I got from All Hail and Wrongdoers, and their lead singer being a putz now didn't do a lot to help me want to stay on board.
