Sounds like this Fantano fellow is human after all then, to the disappointment of some of his critics I'm sure. Divorce sucks, and it's refreshing to see someone as privileged as him actually take it to heart, unlike some.

In any case, mentioning Kanye or this album irl is an uncomfortable feat, even in regard to legal news…

Oh good you can see yourself out of this and all other hip hop threads to minimize your trauma then

personally i thought it was a pretty good and tactful review

i liked a lot of this on first listen but it wears off fast

there are 4 great songs her (back to me, burn, fuk sumn, carnival), a lot of filler, and some really terrible cuts like stars and hoodrat

i definitely think donda 1 has way more quality than this, even if carnival is the best track he's put out since tlop. but i hope thatonce we have all three parts (should they actually come out of course) i'll be able to trim the whole thing down to 10-15 tracks like i did with donda

certainly there's effort here, unlike the shitfest that was donda 2

I still haven’t heard Donda 2 and forgot it was even a thing until this moment.

Honestly, I’m fine with a Kanye album underperforming or even bombing as long as there are a few superb highlights, and it sounds like we got that here, at the very least. Compared to an album like Jesus Is King, which impressively doesn’t have a single highlight on it

Thanks for the constructive feedback, gyro lol

Tbh I'm kinda surprised by the love Carnival has received -it's even challenging for number one on the hot 100 as of this writing. It's a great song with infectious energy, but Back to Me is the clear highlight for me.

Donda (I don't think Donda 2 is canonical tbh lol) is a stronger album imo because it is thematically rich and cohesive, which is disappointing because there's obviously so much Kanye COULD be talking about instead of just horny lyrics. It's a shame that GOOD was taken off (for now...?) because that song added some much-needed heft here. I think if you hold this up lyrically to, say, TLOP it's about that album didn't have nearly the same amount of ire and controversy surrounding it. As I said in my review, I think a younger Kanye would've seized the moment. This Kanye is just sorta hoping it will go away.

if you pretend half of this album doesn't exist, it's almost gud

“Fantano needs to get off of the Internet” [2]

He had some decent takes early on but he is no longer relevant. It’s like he blew his load and has nothing left.

I like Fantano.

I think he's far from perfect, bit he really is just one dude on the internet. This whole Vultures situation was played horribly by him, but it is pretty understandable. I am glad that of all the people who COULD be number one in the music discourse scene, it's him. Much rather that than Brad Taste in Music or Nick Nocturnal or something.

I do think, however, Fantano should maybe take a lap and a little bit of a break. He pretty much only takes two weeks off a year and I think as a result it causes him to be overly plugged-in/vigilant..

Fantano has good opinions sometimes, people put entirely too much weight on his takes though. His takes on heavy bands in particular are often absolutely awful
