Absolutely fucking face-meltingly awesome. Need to give it a few more spins but "Thaw" is such a cool change of pace in the best possible way.
Also, the not-so-subtle nod to "Of Malice" by Mis Sigs with that album cover is just the icing on the cake. Yum.

DUDE YES!!! I knew I wasn't the only one that noticed that.
The Malice guy got indigestion and became edgy

who else feels like this band would benefit from a slightly cleaner guitar tone? i like this band, but i just feel like i can't hear what the guitars are doing half the time. feels intentional and more tone than production.

but then it wouldn't be as filthy

Naw tbh half of the appeal of this band is the stupidly loud production and filthy tones
|

Yeah, oppressive atmosphere and sound feels important to their sound, like it’s part of the family tree of Full of Hell’s “Trumpeting Ecstasy”

Could very well be one of the best hardcore records ever made.

Also ye they lean so heavily into techy caveman satiation and brickwall booming it’s what makes them so unlistenable to some and entertaining to others I feel like you tone that down and this would actually have a lot less character. There’s also something very claustrophobic about it as well I think it’s suits the thematics aimed for.

this sounds way off to me, drums are disgustingly clean (and loud in the mix) for how distorted everything else is, and the guitars are way tinny for how scuzzy they're clearly meant to sound. awkward combination of over- and under-produced at the same time, feels more like plastic in the microwave than proper grit
>checks notes
oh lol, will putney is involved in this project. there we go, ig

Ol' Putters did a better job on the previous album but I still think the production on here is sufficiently tinnitus inducing (and yes this can be viewed as a bad thing). I was thrown off when I heard the first single dropped from this (gaping wounds I think?) but the prod has grown on me

Clearly I must be going insane because the production on this album sounds way better than Splinters imo.

I think Splinters had a bit more dirt in its sound which I'd say suits the band a bit better than the somewhat cleaner sound here. It's not an earth shattering difference though and I still dig the way this album sounds.
I also just like the songs here a lot more, so much more distinct than nearly everything they did before
