Def their best since Altered State but I'm having an oddly difficult time remaining engaged the entire time, same with finding big "WOW" moments, or moments of a deliciously bittersweet vocal melody/motif that makes my hairs stand on end. Maybe more of a grower than I initially thought.

This album gets better the more I listen to it. Production is absolutly killer, and Dan sounds so damn good here! Gonna be seeing them in Portland in October so pretty psyched

Second best djent ever after Februus probably

via will forever rule my kingdom so long as im SITTING INSIDE MY CAR
this is a reasonable contender for best djent of the 2020s tho (not like the bar has been terribly high admittedly)
|

In my mind, the only one that would come close in the 2020s is Periphery V

i did purchase tickets to see them in mid-November in a very small club.....capacity is 700 so it should be phenomenal.....hope they play quite a bit of this

Yeah they're playing at a venue in Portland called the Hawthorne Theater, and it's capacity is probably 700 as well. Even at the back of the room you're still close to the stage

Best Tesseract, sure.. best djent? Try the Vildhjarta - Masstaden rerelease..

Agreed that God Tier Djent is still Februus. Never to be beaten, probably. Altered State is likely tied for #1, maybe a close #2. #3 is probably something by Vildhjarta. This very well could be #4 but I'm having such a hard time finding the time to sit down and give it the time of day.

Periphery will always make me giggle in embarrassment and cringe because Periphery Pete (what my brother called Spencer once) is so violently not-my-jam.
They shoot up the list in concert because they are a stellar and crazy passionately talented live band.
Also, petition for Sput to permanently find & replace the text string "Spencer" or "Spencer Soleto" to Periphery Pete.

altered state is pretty lopsided imo. nothing on side b that comes even close to side a for me personally but good lord are the first 5 songs fantastic. ashe kills it tho
and yeah periphery is a fantastic live band

Speaking of superdupersolid djent.. give Means End - Nox Aurumque a listen if you have a chance. The album it comes from (The Didact) is good, but this song.. this fuckin' song..

"altered state is pretty lopsided imo. nothing on side b that comes even close to side a for me personally but good lord are the first 5 songs fantastic"
The hard truth, yet I feel no less confident in 5'ing it. The second half is kind of like just chilling in the house they built on the first five tracks.
"Periphery will always make me giggle in embarrassment and cringe because Periphery Pete (what my brother called Spencer once) is so violently not-my-jam.

Yeah, nailed it. I've never been too hot on them, much better 'moments' than 'songs' band, but some of those moments are insane (Masamune, reptile etc). I tolerate comments on their greatness as well as I can due to being a genuine fan of Misha and Mark, but comparisons to Tesseract are as hilariously off-base now as they were in 2011 imo.

Fair enough! I just love Altered State front to back because of the rose-tinted-goggles of when it came out and what it personally meant to me for music when I basked in its glory for hours per day, every day, for months.
Yooooo zuzek with the W: how could I forget Means End? Depending on my mood it can either grate on me or be my jam. Super unique sound. Great record.
Yeah GuyMan same here. I never understand comparisons to Tesseract personally. It's a bit too spastic and out-there and I can never get into a groove with them or bathe in a song's atmosphere too long before it's broken up by pop vocals or genre whiplash.
They def shot up in my eyes after I got to see them live. They....sound even better than on record. Tight as shit. One of the top-5 tightest live bands I've seen. Like...close to Ne Obliviscaris for how not-compromised their sound was due to it being live music.
