most teenagers strive to feel "older". they want to be like adults and do/learn about/be shown the fun things adults do. drink do drugs have sex curse rated-r movies etc. self discovery makes them feel grown up blah blah blah.
i'd argue it's the only way for her to go. she needs to grow up with her audience.

like idk just is my lifetime i feel justin timberlake, justin beiber, miley cyrus, selena gomez, demi lovato, lorde, charli xcx, all the one directions guys etc. literally all followed the exact trajectory to varying extents. their image and their lyrics grow way more "mature"
