I know the album is not going for the big crescendos and energy and bombast of the trilogy and Leaving Meaning made it quite clear about the new direction - but it’s just lacking in something. I enjoy Leaving Meaning more, the lighter more hypnotic and swirling quality holds my attention better than more organic low key, one pace of The Beggar.

I agree with @Zakusz that is does have its own charm and there are lovely moments, but I get more from the album in bite size chunks rather than doing it all in one hit

really surprised by how much i enjoyed this. i mean, as a whole it's way too long and suffers at times from the same middling sections as leaving meaning, but the production here is much better and the 40-minute track is just marvellous stuff

Still returning to this once a day basically in some form or another. I know something is "missing" from this but I can't help but think this is still really captivating. I have talked myself into a little more patience with each track and I think its done wonders as things are not so immediate on this release (if they ever were with Swans at all). I have always said this was my favorite band in terms of the "idea" of it all, but sometimes this is all just too challenging to get through on a regular basis.
