I found this album's precursor. In 1995 William Orbit produced vocalist/cellist Caroline Lavelle's debut album Spirit, which has very similar sounds and aesthetics as this. I wouldn't be surprised if Madonna heard Spirit and hit up Orbit afterward.

wow, I'm thinking that that william orbit remix of "electrical storm" is one of the first songs I remember falling in love with. I'll have to double check if it's the original or that remix but I remember not liking the original as much. I had so much fantastic head-imagery matched up to that song as a kid. magical, but I had completely forgotten about it
