It feels like an album of two halves, and Reverie perfectly separates the two

always perplexes me when people complain about the vocals in bands like this like i feel they have more personality and emotion than a lot of other styles i've heard.

I don't really care about the 'teen angst' angle personally. As long as the vocal isn't too abrasive on the ears, I'm generally okay with it. I have the same issue with black metal if the vocal is too high pitched or mixed too high. Same with deathcore. My biggest issue with most deathcore is the grating vocals screams. I guess, thinking about it, it's the same with any type of music. Even the new Meg Myers album has some seriously grating vocal parts that I just don't like.

I've seen a lot of people compare bands like Nickelback to Theory of a Deadman and so on and that's kind of how I feel about most of these core bands - the vocalists all sound too similar to me and it's not great. I will say though that this does at least have some good music to consider, and there are some moments where the vocals are tolerable-verging on enjoyable.

"it just kind of sounds like teen angst to me idk. it's the vocal style, i just hate it" I guess so. for me it's that youthful emotion and I'm a sucker for the late 90s to mid-2000s emo "whine" and these bands keeping that going always get me in a certain feeling. I'd rather that than MOST of the radio-rock guys (Adam Gontier being an exception) these days because emotionally I feel I can relate to a more passionate performance from someone that sounds like they're about my age.

The only grating vocal part on this is the chorus on Shade Astray. I wish someone just told him chill dude, that's too much. Take it down 1 notch

I thought he did great there. Personally I'd love this band to go in a Devil Sold His Soul-like direction, like Empire of Light or their most recent. Focus all-in on the atmosphere and the emotive vocals. Think "It Rains Down" off the former album I mentioned.

It's Landon Tewers, he definitely wrote that chorus and had him do that run lol

The Landon Tewers influence is probably why I'm loving this so much. Probably gonna get to see TPIY live in May.

I really wish Marcus would tone it down with the half scream half singing sections. I think his clean sound the best on songs like Absence and Labyrinthine where he's a little more mellow, it's a nice contrast to his screams.
