Gotta re-listen to this. White Bat grew on me so hard that this one was kind of a disappointment when it came out. :[

It's so hard for me to rank HIL albums, but as far as this one...I haven't been able to get into it near as much as I wish I could. I have to think that the reason is because it doesn't ever let up off the gas; it's a wall of sound the entire way through, and while it's sonically interesting, it's also exhausting for me to listen to. There aren't too many slow or melodic moments for the songs to breathe.
Compare 'White Bat', which is also a super fast and hard-hitting album. A song like "When the Woods Were Young" provides space for the various guitar parts to shine through, whereas a lot of 'Endless Hallway' is drowned in effects and a constant mire of deep chugging riffs, where even the more complex guitar parts are layered on top and often hard to pick up on.
Perhaps that's just my perception, though. I like the album but it's not often I listen to it all the way through, unlike 'White Bat' or 'It Hates You' or 'I Am Hollywood'.

I feel that. Another China White type deal would have been nice on here.

Lifeless Lemonade is so big man wow. Don't get how they came up with that bridge though lol
Really like the production on this record. Heavy yet very clear, without getting too overpolished

They don't have a bad album and a few classic ones. Heavy Fruit is the only one I don't really go back to.

They have mid albums and a stellar one. But it's not this one.

idk the only one that has lasting power for me is I Am Hollywood, with a few exceptions for Either They Decorated and Don't Touch That Dial

I Am Hollywood is just so different from any other album they did that it's hard to compare. Actually, this is the first album where some songs have some guitar tones or melodies that are similiar to the ones on IAH. That their albums are all very unique is one of the things I like most about them. There's hardly ever a song that would fit on a previous album whenever they release a new album.
And yea, Heavy Fruit is not their best, I also fall in the Suck Out The Poison is bad camp. Haven't listened to that one in forever though.

This thread made me go back to this album and holy fuck it still completely riffs my face off

I think 'Heavy Fruit' is misunderstood. It's slower, far more pensive and introspective; whereas their other albums might have one song that slows things down, this album has "Miserable Company," "I Sleep Just Fine," "Beethozart," and especially "Time To Stain". These really help give 'Heavy Fruit' an atmosphere that stands out from the rest of their discography, perfect for a lonely autumn or winter night.
Mind you, still not as good as 'I Am Hollywood' or 'It Hates You'...but I think it gets more hate than it deserves.

I'm in the Heavy Fruit wagon. Album has some of their best emotional songs.
