“artists are not morally obligated to form their artistic expression along the lines of the insecurities of random people they don't even know, that's an insane line of thinking”
Agreed! At the same time, the impact exists and it’s one of those 🤷♂️ things. I blame the parents

Right they are not OBLIGATED to do anything, but mental health problems are a tricky thing to navigate when you're in such a big spotlight
@GreyShadow you should spin Evermore, I like it more than Folklore

Also, @Ash
Whenever I see your avatar, I hear “BRRAP BRRAP PEW PEW” in my head

but nobody is mad at her for depicting her mental health problems, they're mad because her mental health problems happen to pertain to their physical health problems. this scenario is like if people were outraged at Danny Brown for depicting his drug abuse because it's offensive to drug addicts by implying that drug addiction is a bad thing

Yeah, Evermore > Folklore.

And they suck. It’s a shit situation. I agree with you and see what you’re saying, though I have nothing further to add.

Danny Brown is not a good example here, he was actually an addict and is rapping about how that fucked his life up. Taylor is calling herself fat when she is actually not, though she might struggle with her image, it's not the same. Plus again, who is Danny's fanbase and who is Taylor's? She is free to feel how she feels, but nothing is without consequences. Like personally, I struggle with my self image sometimes even though I am in pretty good shape, but I would never tweet a thirst trap with "I'm fat" because I know other people struggle too and that might make them feel worse. That's all.
In other words, we all need to talk to our therapists.

but the argument against her is that the notion of “being fat is bad” is wrong, so even if she was actually fat they would be saying the same thing. not to mention she’s had eating disorders before and has had people go after her for gaining weight. people are trying to erase her own struggles and experiences because they think that their own insecurities take precedent and that they are more important. there’s no defending that

“ Danny Brown is not a good example here, he was actually an addict and is rapping about how that fucked his life up”
and Taylor has actually had eating disorders that fucked her life up. why is she not allowed to describe her own struggles. what about all the people who have similar body image disorders as her, or eating disorders like she has had? seeing Taylor be open about that stuff could be inspirational to them but the people critiquing her literally don’t give a fuck about those people, they just wanna have their own feelings protected. when you’re so self-centred that you actively harm other people because of it you don’t get to claim some kind of moral high ground

She’s allowed to talk about her own struggles and she often does, but the way she does it is so manufactured and corpobullshit that people see right through it.

Stepping on a scale as an attractive, skinny female that so many people look up to and it saying "fat" is way different than her talking about her eating disorder struggles. I don't disagree with you though, people are self centered and they do overreact, if she thinks that she is fat that is her issue, not theirs, but she could have showed it better.

dude that’s a direct depiction of the mental process that people with eating disorders like anorexia experience. like it literally couldn’t be more direct lol

It literally didn't have to be a scale that says "FAT" idk why you're being so obtuse about this
|
| |
what could it have been then? should she have stood in front of a mirror and see a fatter reflection of herself in the mirror? what other way is there for her to visually depict the concept of viewing yourself as fatter than you really are

Looking in the mirror and looking upset without labeling herself as anything
Even stepping on the scale and looking upset without showing the scale
I really don't care either way, I am just explaining to you why people are upset

The idea that a “conventionally attractive” person can’t think about themselves that way is one of the chief problems with how we view mental health
|
| |
^ the notion that she doesn’t have the right to experience these struggles is so shitty
