I liked more of what I heard of this than WIITB, too.

I saw that interview too and was like wtf. Even they've admitted themselves that SHTS blows away WIITB on every musical level

its a little eye-opening for me, I'd bet most bands people claim as simplistic or whatever have more than enough ability to create "deeper" brands of their music they just choose not to for whatever reason.

The difficulty of remembering parts/tempos/not boring the crowd live is a lot to do with it, just as much as it is simplifying to appeal to wider audiences. Although in Finch's case i'd say it's more the latter, the overwhelming amount of their old fans know WIITB and don't like SHTS as much

@calc: of course. you aren't obliged as a musician to play at your utmost ability. a lot of people enjoy "simplistic" music including the musicians that produce/make it regardless of how creative/talented/technical they are.

This is a shit ton better than WIITB and the band knows it. I'm guessing they also know how well WIITB sold compared to this though, so they're appealing to that demographic.

Still a fantastic album in 2014 when their debut sounds like another fairly bland post hordcore band.

band just announced a new album coming out this year, although my excitement level is down like, at least 40% since they said this particular album is "out of their systems"

The new stuff shows promise. Although I really hate that Alex Pappas' boring ass is back on drums

My GOD this really is underrated. Perhaps it's partly the initial shock of this being superior in every way to What It Is To Burn but this one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. If Back to Oblivion is anywhere near this good it could be one of my AOTY contenders.
