You don't care for lyrics because you are a non-native english speaker
I don't care for lyrics because it distracts me from tonal musicality. We are not the same

i care about lyrics*, though they are but one aspect of what defines vocal music. hard to be moved by emotional lyrics, however soul-crushing, when the music is painfully average / uninteresting / humdrum / what-have-you.
e.g. MOUNT EERIE is far superior (imo) to A CROW LOOKED AT ME, despite the latter having almost objectively more moving and emotional lyricism. everyone's mileage will (obviously) vary, tho.
*exceptions being non-native languages or (most) metal, wherein the vocals act more like an additional instrument for me.

I agree at least tho, Mount Eerie is better

MOUNT EERIE gang 👊🏻
Now if you tell me you also prefer MOUNT EERIE to THE MICROPHONES PT. 2, we will truly be brothers.

Yeh Mt Eerie and Microphones in 2020 are my fave Phil things lol

god bless you 🙏🏼

First time listening to this and I can already tell that I am going to end up holding on so closely to this. Probably as much as I did GFIL.

tect is hitting the nail on the head here, lyrics can only enhance the experience, they cannot be the one saving grace amongst a sea of mediocrity. I can’t think of a single album / piece of music where the lyricism is the most important aspect of the overall experience.
His point about metal is also absolutely accurate and what people like Colton (sorry Colton) fail to understand. Sometimes (actually often) in extreme metal I can’t even decipher what the lyrics actually are, so their content is irrelevant. Do they add anything?… no, but they also cannot possibly detract from the experience in those instances, and the vocals act as though they are an instrument instead.
It’s not just metal, because I’m often emotionally taken by music that speaks to me for reasons I cannot completely quantify, often with foreign lyrics or even just ‘sounds’.
Of course this is also completely ignoring any of the incredible instrumental music produced throughout history, including to but not limited to classic jazz, post-rock, classical etc. You don’t necessarily need lyrics to tell a story.

Subjectivity in music. Some people place importance to lyrics in music, some do not.
|

lol dedex I didn’t say that
obviously they will vary in importance depending on who you ask, which is fine.

i think that's a perfectly fine opinion -- I just disagree pretty strongly. Excellent lyrics can turn pedestrian music into a great experience, and vice versa
