Revisiting this after a while and I'm just curious, can anyone actually listen to the whole of the first track? If so, what strategies do you suggest to prevent yourself from driving a fork into your ear...repeatedly...?

This is aging well. Despite a slow start with the opener and Flowers are Dead (quite boring) it recovers and just keeps getting better and better.

Nah... it is just bad. Really, really bad. I am fine with uncomfortable, but pain-inducing? And I don't find the rest of the album uncomfortable at all; inventive, catchy, engaging - yes (kind of reminiscent of very early Björk actually).

But the opener... ugghh...

Yeah, I don't get psychological horror vibes from this at all - it's not substantive enough - comes off a little like a college student who's read a couple of books and think they've graduated to a higher plane. It's definitely atmospheric and unusual, but also a little video-gamey cheesy. I enjoy it very much though.

The early Björk comparison was more in terms of the youthfulness, the sense that she (not sure of pronoun) inhabits her own world, the slightly immature but inventive electronic elements, and the sense that she has an interesting path ahead of her.

I get what she's trying to do with the opener, and I understand your point about setting the tone, but I find it unlistenable.

And yes - there is definitely a LOT of music I am yet to explore...

I don't think I said anything about any kind of lyrical similarity with Björk - they couldn't be further apart. And I've never been a champion of Björk's lyrics anyway apart from the unique way she combines words and a certain poetic strangeness and beauty. But Yeule's death porn lyricism doesn't seem substantive to me; I thoroughly enjoy the music, but I don't connect emotionally to what she's saying; I certainly don't get a feeling of unsettling psychological horror anyway. Girl in Red's Serotonin, though nowhere near as dark, resonates more with me in its treatment of similar themes, albeit in a less direct way.

Don't get me wrong - I really enjoy this album - just not as much as you. I think it has flaws, but I will be watching how she develops with interest.

Previous LP is dope, but I'm really glad and surprised by the direction they took here. depth.

I love the experimentation here but I think the songwriting falls a bit short compared to the first album. "Don't be so hard on your own beauty" is one of the best songs this year.

This has a very infectious quality to it that I haven’t figured out yet but I like it. Wish I hadn’t waited so long to check

Yeah this is aoty and it's a huge surprise to me because despite liking it a good bit at first, I didn't think it would come close to cracking my top 10. But this is the album that keeps giving. One of only a few albums I didn't get burned out from this year and grew to like the more I heard it.

It certainly is something, I’m just not entirely sold on the whole package

Conceptually it intrigues, certainly feels like something I could connect with, yet ultimately feels musically barren / uninteresting, there really isn’t too much to grab hold of in that sense

idk, I really wanted to like this

lol, I edited (damn, you’re quick)

It knows, I’m just not sold on it. Difference between music and concept. Music is far less convincing. Conceptually, it leaves no room for manoeuvre in that sense. Don’t drink and Sput guys
