They just butt heads constantly. It’s not that they don’t like each other it’s just being in that band sounds terrible lol

i think thorn is the song that gives me hope for their future but yeah i dunno it's pretty meh compared the other albums even if it's a lot better than erase me and yeah i feel like they tend to hate on whatever they did last haha

it's pretty painful how that making of is presented like 'we went through all these hardships and struggles but thank god (or maybe not god anymore lmaoxd etc) the art speaks for itself' and then the art most definitely does not speak for itself lol

The 3-album run that was considered their best happened when they were under a ton of stress, no? and Erase Me was considered a step down because of the lack of that fight, no?

Erase Me was considered shite because it was shite

"Erase Me was considered a step down because of the lack of that fight, no?"
you really think people needed to dig behind the scenes to cast their judgment?

well the lack of that fight translated to a simpler, easier to digest project. it wasn't shite, people just wanted them to continue in the Disambiguation direction and when it wasn't what they expected they ree'd. lol

It's not about sounding different, it's about being unable to execute a different kind of sound well, which is exactly what's been happening
Plenty of bands out there doing a 180 and pulling it off successfully

i think people are just way too cynical. when it doesn't sound exactly as they'd fantasized a band's return to be, they overreact and say the band's washed and not good anymore.
maybe i have recency bias admittedly because aside from a song or two here and there, i didn't have the easiest time getting into underoath. but i felt erase me was a lot more digestible and had a lot of that signature style that got me intrigued to look back and see what i missed out on.
i can see why fans of the older stuff would be disappointed but it just comes off like people fantasized a return, it didn't come out exactly as it was fantasized and people overreacted and said it was "bad" as a result. Erase Me had hooks for days and tracks like No Frame.

I like Eskimo Callboy and I didn't fantasise about anything
I wouldn't have minded if they had even ventured more into their post-metal side they flirted with on Lost, as long as they had done it well enough

i genuinely just do not hear what's so bad about these last two albums, they're obviously not gonna compare to the 3-album stretch before it but those were some of the greatest albums ever made so it's a HIGH bar.
