Spectrum of One Colour probably has the cringiest sounding vocal moment on the album for me but that song is extremely good as a whole. I love how demonic the growls sound at the end.

Blasphemy and this have plenty of cringy vocals throughout. Would enjoy both a good deal more if they were basically instrumental, at least the more metal songs. But I love the singing on pretty much all of Coffins and Phobos.

Blasphemy is plentiful in campy vocals with the hushed shouts about "HIS POCKETS FILLED WITH GOLLLD" and other yarr hare fiddledidee being a pirate is alright to be lyrics

I know exactly that vocal moment, and it's why my rating is a 4.0 instead of a 4.5 haha. It felt too out of a place in an otherwise awesome song. It was like a cliche 80s metal scream.

The blasphemy vocals grew on me quite a bit and I personally think the style of theatrical vocals he developed on that album have grown and makes this album better as a result. It's nice to hear an album heavy as fuck without it relying on brutal growls to get across the evil vibes. Hearing Toby sing about a child's fly-ridden mother decomposing in a bed of her own filth (Brethren) is way more powerful and effective with the theatrics. Speaking of growls though, I think when Toby does do them on this album they're probably his best (Spectrum and Epipsychidion).

Also I'm one of the believers for "An Eye for a Lie". The whole "What is this thing upon this hook?" bit towards the end of the song is such an amazing vocal performance.

Kayo Dot’s 10th LP, “Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike”, is one more proof that Toby Driver genius is fortunately still with us. His borderless brand of experimental and progressive metal invites 80s synth music and post-punk/gothic vibes this time in this uniquely brilliant record. “Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike” is a sonic voyage that reflects upon the pagan mind's cyclic vision of the world with great charisma and emotion. For this task Toby recruited all the original members from his previous project, Maudlin of the Well, which is fantastic news for all of us who held Maudlin of the Well close to our hearts.
Sound wise this album sees Kayo Dot expanding their late synth driven brand of prog metal/rock as they incorporate some new elements from 80s post-punk and gothic rock that endow the music with a unique, reflective tone that feels very fresh yet very reminiscent of the 80s rock and dark music. Imagine Rush’s “Power Windows” era meeting Joy Division and then add Type O Negative’s dark vibes and Ulver’s experimental approach to the mix to get an idea of what you should expect here. Compositionally the album is very interesting.
