Whenever I listen to Dream Theater I feel like I've eaten a sandwich made of artisan bread with no filling.

Really wish Rudess would not use the same patch for every single 'solo' or lead keyboard part. Absolutely no variety and it ran its course 10+ years ago.

new song sounds like something off train of thought, which automatically makes it shite

also hilarious how the band who made a 2+ hour double album about how "machines can't make music it must come from the heart" is suddenly using exclusively ai generated artwork this entire rollout

im really disappointed with both new DT songs.....not the effect I was expecting with Portnoy back

They do feel pretty safe but I'm enjoying them. Prefer Night Terror a bit more

Night Terror is easily the better of the two for me. But even songs like The Alien and Sleeping Giant from their last record blow both of these away. Not a good sign....

Yeah, if the singles are any indication, the new album will be somewhere in the 3-3.5 range for me. I wish DT tried something a bit more ambitious for Portnoy's return (maybe something related to SFaM?), but maybe they're just testing the waters to gauge how the fans will react first. idk

also, i'd never be able to tell you if this was Portnoy or Mangini based on what we've heard

i honestly love broken man. sounds like something that could've been on six degrees/train of thought potentially which in the grand scheme of dream theater's music is a pretty radical shift from the mangini era imo. night terror is merely fine imo.
also despite the drums sounding identically washed out i def feel like portnoy has delivered so far.

I don't see how anyone can say Broken Man is safe or DT by the numbers, it literally has a jazz solo in it.
I'm not saying it's a "good" song necessarily, but it's quite a bit more experimental than they usually go for
