Been wanting to check this band out for a while, feel this may not be the place to start though…

This is a magnificent stand alone record IMO so you wouldn't regret starting here. The only downside is you'd miss out on the sense of evolution that comes from witnessing them grow into this sound from their emo/post-rock roots as well as some lyrical callbacks.

It's honestly not a bad place to start imo Boney, they're a lot less emo than they used to be but I feel you'd probably prefer that to be the case, so

If you like this one I suggest going backwards with their discography.

Might just go back and start at the beginning, certainly the first album is more welcoming at 35 minutes as opposed to this one’s 70. I tend to prefer going chronologically anyways.

At least that way you'll get to hear Harmlessness, which is probably still my favorite of theirs even over this one.

I can't stand Whenever, If Ever vocals. Glad they've massively improved on that aspect.

@Cormano, should I check those before the LPs?

@gravity, I figure if I can stomach TBLA’s vocals I can handle just about any emo vocals at this point 😅

@boney hmm I'd probably go Formlessness > Split with Deer Leap> Whenever

the thing about Assorted Works is that it spawns about 8 years of stuff but it compiles a lot of music that was previously hard to track and is also some of their best material

also as much shit as Tom Diaz gets as a vocalist I think he was a great singer and his voice carried more personality than Bello's
