The second half of Outside with the breathing is essential to the album, v strong opener for me

I guess the Tom Waits song is my least favourite if I had to pick one out

Occasionally this reminds me of Tricky, in particular the ‘Angels with Dirty Faces’ album (his most ‘deconstructed’)

this is a rare album where my least favourite is the opener yea. doesn't do much for me. rest of the album threw me for a loop tho!

Smoke Don't Clear and SS San Francisco are the weak links for me tbh. Good songs don't get me wrong, but I find myself returning to those two the least.

closer is the worst track, I think. just isn't as hard-hitting or on the level of the atmosphere and variety established earlier

"love how there's no consensus on best tracks here whatsoever"

the sign of a really good album

Same. I would've been completely fine with Knees being the closer

I thought the opener and closer were mirror cathartic releases and conceptually essential?

I don’t mind ‘Smoke Don’t Clear’ being the middle of this album but out of the context of the setting here I wouldn’t listen to it much. Definitely seems the least developed and interesting thing here for me.

The last four tracks are an incredible run. Bumping rating.

The only standalone tracks are the singles (Knees and Superman That), rest rely on placement and pacing for impact. Agree that the opener and closer mirror each other.
