The first three-quarters of this record is just mind-blowing earth-shattering stuff. The record starts with such bombast though that it has no choice but to strip things down and simplify just to maintain contrast and not over-stimulate. It is a good thing she does that at the end of this record, but she's unable to tie it cohesively with dramatic cinematic vision of the front half of the record - resulting in this record having the unfortunate feel of just petering out at the end.
Still, one of the very best of the year.
