feel like there was so much potential to write a really fascinating review here and instead it reads like a ten minute "kanye's crayyyyyy gimme ur comments"

honestly like 5-6 albums with horrible art in a row for kanye
|
| |
Agreed, but there's no way this is the official cover art. In its current form this feels like a rough draft.

"feel like there was so much potential to write a really fascinating review here and instead it reads like a ten minute 'kanye's crayyyyyy gimme ur comments'"
yeah writing a kneejerk review to an album like this feels kinda reductive, tho after how abysmal his last one was I can hardly blame anyone who cast this off after one or two listens. I still think there's more to this one but need time to p r o c e s s

I miss the Louise Bourgeois artwork
Lets pretend he went With the black artwork as a nod to the upcoming anniversary of The Black Album

This album's concepts of Jesus and God feels like Kanye skimmed through the New Testament and told everyone he's religious

Great review!

lol absolutely this, imagine rushing out this shit review as fast as possible so people would read and comment on it
this review doesn't offer anything and reads exactly like you'd listened to it three times on the day of release only

I'm getting more into this, it's like a build a burger album. I found TLOP a bit too dull to really tinker with, but with Donda I did feel the urge to listen to the whole thing a few times and discard the filler. Now it's a question of sequencing what's left. Sort of conceptually matches the Donda player lol...
This is where I am so far, sort of a strong 3.5 / weak 4:
God Breathed
Ok Ok
Jail
Jesus Lord
Hurricane
Lord I Need You
Jonah
Donda
Moon
Believe What I Say
Come to Life

It's definitely an overview review designed to (perhaps temporarily) fill a void as one staffer backed out for moral reasons, not meant to plunge into the deepest meanings of the album. I'd certainly welcome that from anyone, failed contributor or otherwise. Someone else on staff may even eventually write something, and I'm sure Milo or Jotw would do a bang-up job.
I actually really enjoy a small subsection of this to the point that I'm listening to Donda on repeat, but even though I want to think of this as my hip-hop AOTY it simply falls short 63% of the time. This is my preferred tracklist: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/blog/2021/08/30/reimagining-albums-3-kanye-wests-donda/

I cast a line among the staffers to see if there would be any takers to do a deeper dive on this.

If you include contribs, I may just take you up on that
|

A none-meme review of this seems like an impossible task
|

Album Rating: 4.5
It's not impossible, I think you just have to have a clear vision of how all 27 tracks work together. For me I love certain songs and the rest bore me.
No reason a contrib couldn't review this too, the more the merrier. I can't guarantee the flag if Milo/Jotw decides to hop on the train too, though.
