I think I enjoy other records this year more than this, but I see myself coming back to this for a long time

Honestly there have been so many excellent records in 2021, and it's only August. I see my year-end list being quite crowded.
But yes, this will be Top 5 no matter what and more than likely top 2 for me personally.
I just can't get over the enormous gap in maturity between this and literally anything else this band has ever accomplished.

In Another Life really starting to hit after being more of a background highlight my first few spins
everything here's a winner, even Runaway Horses would be top 50% on any album from D&A to WW

In Another Life came alive for me today too
Lots of people saying Runaway Horses is the weakest here and it could be, but even if it is I'm still getting Simon and Garfunkel vibes from the melody and that's a damn okay consolation prize

colton you... you know this and The Gaslight Anthem are just riffing on the same era of Springsteen right?

I haven't listened to The Gaslight Anthem in ages but I don't remember them sounding even remotely like this

All I remember from them is the song 45 so I'll have to trust you on that one
That said it'll take me a while to get my fill of this to the point that I care to revisiting TGA again

Three days after I bought this, i’m 4.5ing it. I don’t even like to rate albums until a couple weeks after the release date and a bunch of listens. I love this album, even after three days of getting it. I hope this album stays that way for me.
Being from a small town outside a much-larger small town, album speaks to me. Granted, my town and Nephi are quite different - mine is a tough-as-fuck railroad town in the desert, smack-dab in the world’s meth capital, and a destination for L.A gangbangers that wanna lay low for a while - but are the same when it comes to the human element and the stories we watched unfold or lived. I feel like BF lived in my area for a while, too, and decided to write about my hometown, as well as his.

@Colton I think but I can't say for sure even. I just know that at one point in 2012 I listened to Handwritten and then tried skimming through their other albums and never got hooked
@MetalMarc: very cool to see that this hit you as powerfully as it did me; having a personal connection to the types of towns and people observed here definitely adds an emotional tie that not everyone would have.

"this sounds way more like The Gaslight Anthem than The Gaslight Anthem sounds like Springsteen"
not sure about that one chief TGA is about as Springsteen-worship as anything I've heard lol. they have some good songs though.

I see the springsteen parallels on everything post American Slang, but The 59 sound is pretty unique sounding i feel

Yeah now that I think about it, the Killers are probably an influence on TGA

59' Sound is a bit more rugged compared to this. I said it on a previous page but I liken this record more to Elsie or Fallon's solo stuff than TGA.
