Fascinating how Steven criticizes overpriced box sets in the chorus of Personal Shopper while also releasing overpriced box sets for this album

i figured it was some sort of intentional irony (that and releasing like 12 different color versions of the vinyl) but i'm not so sure

Yeah not buying the "message" on this. Doesn't come across as sincere to me

Using "intentional irony" to rationalize doing something you yourself criticize on the very same album while reaping all of the same benefits is lul. Intentional or not mans a hypocrite. As if trying to make pop albums wasn't already a clear indication of his intent.

I didn't buy the album and I have listened to it twice or so. Can't decide on the score yet. I find sellout accusations quite laughable though. This album might not be so great, but it doesn't have that mass appeal either. And the super expensive version of the album was pretty cringe, I guess, but calling him a hipocrite for very deliberate satire ... idk, that's not really convincing me.

Overall the album is a misstep.

It's not satire, it's wearing the illusion of satire to profit off the exact thing he's criticizing. Dude's making special edition releases, marketing them as "collector's items," and charging through the nose for 'em.

(Aka in this instance doing the exact same thing he is criticizing with absolutely zero element of humour or exaggeration)

Now that just sounds like a Marina Abramovic installation piece

This is like if in the Nathan For You episode where he opens a Starbucks satire coffeeshop called Dumb Starbucks, he instead just franchised his own operation and opened an actual Starbucks

How is a 10 000 pounds box set not exaggerated? lol

Fair, I'm also exaggerating for hyperbolic effect, but the point is the "satire" is mild and transparent and your rationalizations and strawmen are unconvincing that it is anything otherwise IMO
