>The Haim song sounds like Bob Marley decided to do a noir-country version of Before He Cheats.

^ Yes for the Bob Marley part, but the music does bear some resemblance to the "right now" verses of Before He Cheats.

I was being a little facetious with that comment. Where your tastes lie on the Taylor Swift/John McLaughlin axis depends entirely on what you value in your music. If you primarily value mood and emotional effect in your music you're not gonna get anything out of Mahavishnu Orchestra.

The Mahavishnu Orchestra puts me in a good mood.

I value different things in different music. Mahavishnu has its own mood and emotion that's entirely different from Swift. No reason someone can't appreciate both. Whenever I spend a lot of time with jazz, or metal, or pop, or classical, etc. I eventually find myself wanting something different.

Sure. But, in general, the overlap between Swift listeners and McLaughlin listeners is virtually non-existent because they work on different levels. The most die-hard McLaughlin fans I know of are musicians who like to notice something new on the 100th time they hear a song.
