^ If you like that song you should check out some Gillian Welch. Lenker/Big Thief def remind me of her at times.

I need to get on this asap its frankly embarassing

new one is her best solo work for me tbh. the whole run from real house to free treasure is absolutely unbelievable
I am miffed that she literally has a song called bright future and it's not on the album tho lol

I'm not convinced it contains my very favourite Lenker songs but as a complete album it is definitely her best solo work so far - not even a slightly weak point at all in the first seven songs for me, and then the closer is the best tune on the album and 'Already Lost' isn't far behind.

Agreed with butt a couple of pages back that the closer is overly safe. Best track on the second half (not saying much), but pretty lame point to set the ceiling

Johnny, the album probably just isn’t your thing so much, I’m not convinced it’s a ‘quality’ issue

Considering what’s ’expected of the artist’ I’d say the Lenker is the most risky out of the Holter, the Waxahatchee and ‘Bright Future’. I actually think the album ‘not being a totally logical follow up to Songs’ is upsetting folk a bit. That’s risk.

I’ve realized the closer on the new one is effectively an adult contemporary pop piano ballad and I haven’t yet decided how I feel about that.

To sum it up, ‘songs’ is great but still feels more low key than Big Thief but ‘Bright Future’ is the solo album where you go ‘hmmm, she might outgrow Big Thief pretty soon - this is approaching ‘main event’
Like Buck Meek’s solo album last year was still resolutely a side attraction, for comparison.
The cover art also screams ‘established solo artist’ now, pretty sure she’ll have a solo career that extends beyond Big Thief.

I think she’s clearly seen herself as a solo artist as much as a bandleader for her whole career, I kind of feel like each one bolstering the other is why this seems so confident, in a way.
Anyway after a few spins I do love the new one, there are a few moments I’m not sure about but it’s def my favorite of her solo albums at this point.

Sure, but this album is now making big waves like a full Big Thief release I think.
Tbh the contents of this album sound a lot more like the folk and country tunes on ‘Dragon’ more than the mostly gentle clean sounding folk of ‘songs’, this new one is ‘rustic as fuck’

Yeah that was my point, if UFOF/Two Hands was the real breakthrough for Big Thief, they made Songs bigger, songs mad Dragon New Warm Mountain bigger, that is making Bright Future bigger.
And yeah I’m really digging the rustic sound, perhaps it’s just personal taste but that’s where I think Lenker and co are best.

I think Lenker is starting to get her own name, though I don’t know that the name will exceed BT’s. Maybe the well publicized online songwriting course helped. She’s more identifiable than ever surely, even if as “frontperson of BT”; surely also “BT fans who know who ‘Adrianne lenker’ is” went up even among people who were jamming CAPACITY.

have definitely met a few queer girls who are very yes adrianne/idc big thief
>Johnny, the album probably just isn’t your thing so much, I’m not convinced it’s a ‘quality’ issue
could easily have 4'd the first five songs - could just as easily argue it's your proclivity for backwater country talking through the rest of it (and no prizes for pointing out the most indiscriminate consumers of that itt)

Vampire Empire is top 3 on the album and Already Lost and Donut Seam are also amazing
