wait until you hit 19000 comments and then you can apologize for commenting too much (;

You're all still commenting babies.

interesting discussion on the last few pages. I don't want to be on a music forum where we can call melodies "beautiful" but not "weak", that's way too fluffy for me

What is with this production? I feel like a gang of bassists hijacked these arrangements. I feel like all the lush hi-mid frequencies are filtered out and all the instruments are palm muted. Pitchfork will eat this crap up I’m sure.

I enjoyed this quite a lot.

'weak' in this context means unengaging and forgettable [in my personal experience and subjective opinion], because what else would it mean? that someone said the melodies are 'weak' and therefore a real part of their objective value is at stake? this is a comment thread; i see no reason to spell out the various layers and applications of subjective/objective that are transferable between literally all comments, beyond catering to the overly defensive (which tbqh is not a priority in my posting here). it's unhelpfully pedantic and would lead to comments like this:
the production is good (which means I think it's well crafted as a piece as audio engineering (which tbh is slight conjecture but hey it doesn't clip and the layering and tones sound okay)), but it doesn't (in my opinion) foreground any of the most engaging qualities of PhoeB's voice or frame her melodies in a memorable way (a way that I find memorable). a lot of the time, you can safely subtract her voice and end up with elevator music (but, woah, that doesn't mean it will literally objectively be played in elevators! it means i think it's overly smooth and devoid of character in a way that makes it interchangeable with any unobtrusively pleasant background music lol - t/t a great example, nothing engaging about its melodies or arrangement or chord progressions or dynamics (for me!))
agreed that savior complex is striking in its instrumentation because (I think) it's individually engaging in both chord progressions and arrangement and it stands out against many other tracks which (I think) are not. etc
tl;dr you don't need to be patronised and i don't want to patronise you, but i think it's easy enough to bring your own pinches of salt to a discussion forum that has more than enough salt to go around to begin with.

I think the most succinct thing I can say about the production is that it’s very typical post-Bon Iver indie folk.

waior's (very legitimate) opinion strikes a deep chord with me b/c i am low key convinced that every album ppl like that i don't like is actually good and i just have the attention span of a flea

[2] actually but luckily I like about 95% of all music I hear

waior's posts are by far the most interesting and thought-provoking thing to happen in this thread, so yes lol

Hmmmmm there are many things in this thread that are sarcastically more "interesting" (such as your rating) but in all seriousness yes

i think title track is the first one here that has really clicked with me! haven't seen a lot of talk about that one

Can't tell if melodies are weak [2]or if it's a grower[2].

It is actually growing on me. I can see it ending up as a 4. As much as I loved the first album, trying new things is admirable.

I would love if she did something really radical with the next record because her voice is magic but I've always found her songwriting so plain and unimaginative. BOCC was a snooze.
