Was kind of excited to hear this album after seeing the amount of praise it's getting...
It's a shame I can't stand the vocals, not big on the whole power metal vocals thingy, I'm sure this is a good album if you like those since the instrumentals are absolutely nuts.
Probably won't replay it though, sadly it's not my thing.

"The Canary" reminds me so much of the band I used to see at every local show between "Just Defy" and "Calculated use of Sound"

AKA my favourite song they've put out in years. Rody fuckin kills.

I SOLD MY SOUL
FOR A HANDFUL OF KILLS AND A BANKROLL
|
| |
i have this problem where the first three tracks satisfy my so thoroughly that i don't feel invested in hearing the whole thing, someone please tell me why i'm wrong
|
| |
would i enjoy this remotely
|
| |
you would either hate the vox or love the shit out of it
|
| |
hmmmm those genre tags are not promising
|
| |
oh lol ignore the mxc tag, it's never been accurate to their sound (their early stuff is kinda post-hxc but too focused on the prog to sit that easily there). fun overblown notes-per-second heavy prog with a shitton of hooks basically
|
| |
oh that sounds fun actually will check

Those highs in 'Rivet' are ridiculous. Cooming

It's weird how divisive the vocals are, I mean, I kinda got it back when Kezia came out cause he was a bit whiny still back then. But I don't see all this talk about vocals when it comes to Iron Maiden and Rody's pretty close to Dickinson... But I'm guessing the people not liking Rody also don't listen to Maiden either lol.

I just want him to do more of his low gutterals that he does every now and again.
|

The low gutterals are a welcome addition, yeah.
I actually like Rody's more rough around the edges performance here in general, adds a lot.

Yeah Rody's distortion technique is way better on this. Not only do his screams and growls just sound better and more open, but he's also doing different types of distortions and blends that we've really never heard him do.
I've heard people say that Rody's vocals on this are "samey" or even "monotonous," which I cannot understand at all because this might be his most varied to date. He still doesn't sound 100% comfortable singing yet, but that adds a kind of rawness and vulnerability that personally I feel elevates the vocal performance as a whole. But there are also times when you can hear his improved technique shine through and he sounds fantastic.

Anyone have any insight as to what "Soliloquy" is about?

Man, Soliloquy riffs hard and what a great transition into Reverie. Really loving this album right now, although i feel like at times they do stay within their comfort zone on here.

"Soliloquy" is about Baby Face Nelson, "Reverie" is about his partner in crime, John Dillinger.

bass definitely should get more praise around here
