I'd definitely consider it pop punk, despite not recycling three chords. Definitely mixes in a harder punk with it, at times garage punk. The post punk toward the end of the album sets up for the grindcore finisher... what a stylistic change from the gothic metal opening track.

It isn't really pop/punk, though there are definitely elements of it here. Musically I think it is a pretty good soundtrack for a summer/beach trip thought.

the first half is for sure upbeat but idk. summery would imply some content leanings that i just dont think this album has lol

Yeah, that's definitely fair haha. It can be a bit of a downer lyrically but tracks like "Leave It In The Sun" and especially those final two are ripe for summer, in addition to me not being much of a lyric-centric listener.

Summery? In what hemisphere? That's a conspiracy theory. Stop drinking the Kool-aid and wake up, sheeple.

lucman i would probably be more inclined to think about that if this wasnt a very lyrical record? like the songs arent just hooks and repeated verses right like they to some degree ask too much of someone to just put them on without any kind of interaction lol

That's a good point hxc. Structurally especially, the songs are more narrative driven than not and demand closer attention. Aside from maybe Scram! I don't think there's a standalone lyric that gets stuck in your head. On the other hand, nearly every song has a shout along "Whoah" moment which is something Jeff didn't really utilize on his last three albums. It's absolutely more than a simple summer soundtrack but I think a good part of it, if not the whole thing, can work as one.

They are a bonus. No lyrics can save an album if it's sonically weak (hello, tallest man on earth, laura stevenson and other insipid coffeshop folk of the 10s).
