I say this release is very intelligent...since I agree with Conmaniac's take at the top of the page.
Eternal Summer is very daft punkish. I'm digging...lets see how it goes for the second half.
Edit - damn PB, I agree with Conmaniac's take at the top of previous page...

"The vocalist sounds completely uninterested in what he's doing (that might be their 'thing' but if so than I just don't like it)"
that's definitely part of his swagger
digging this so far but then again i've dug all their albums on some level

There's definitely good tunes here.
and I agree "that's definitely part of his swagger", like "I'm here but I don't need this"
although I must say there's some cool vocal achievements here lol

some cool tunes exactly. the problem here though, and with most these guys have done, is that when the tunes are not there it's just not very interesting to listen to. and these guys have never (yes, is this it also suffers from this) been capable of making a whole album full of tunes

second spin Art, and def the opener, Selfless, Bad Decisions, Eternal Summer, At the Door, Not the Same, Ode to the Mets are all tracks that stick. It's cool that some songs reminds us of some others famous ones.
Plus I should enhance that the album takes somewhat of a surprising and welcome turn, from Eternal Summer onwards, providing variety and songwriting abilities.

Eternal Summer is def the worst song on here, but Ode to the mets is fantastic.
This will probably end up at a 4 at some point for me. Really digging most of it.

just because Eternal Summer doesn't seem like a The Strokes song doesn't make it bad..

no, it sucking ass is what makes it bad
adversely, the song that sounds the most like the strokes to my ear (bad decisions) is also one of the worst and most boring ones here so your hypothesis falls flat

Since this came out I'm not listening much to anything else.. and that doesn't happen often, so... but then again, I really like the nonchalance of Casablancas and the catchyness of this band in general so i might be biased.

Bad decisions it's kinda boring, and i cant see pass through the dancing with myself vibes. It keeps messing with me.

honestly one of the main draws of this album for me is that Julian sounds like he DOES give a shit. Like dude has some legit star turns on here

this album is decent enough but ultimately it just made me want to go back to their earlier stuff that I prefer to this (the first two and Angles)

There's 3 great songs on here that still could've used a touch of trimming imo. But I guess I prefer the "punchy" strokes

A Strokes song should never exceed 5 minutes (more like 4). There are five of them here.
