@hawks
true, though RE4 remake was legit great and actually improved on some things. though, in the case of the team silent games, they are literal works of art and will receive just scrutiny for even the most trivial changes.
would have made way more sense releasing 1-3 officially onto games services, so people can experience them in their proper glory.

"i also find it mildly irritating these days when people name-drop akira like that'll prove the quality of the game. don't get me wrong, his music has always been consistently great, but he had absolutely no input on the games themselves other than sound design, nor did he give a shit about anything outside of his wheelhouse. seems the passage of time overlooks the fact he was "producer" on some of the worst games in the series."
I didn't say the game was going to be quality because he's doing the audio, I said I considered the purchase of the remake justifiable because he's on it. Whether or not you agree with that is your business.

I think it looks kinda neat, ngl. They dropped the ball with the performances, i think. It doesn't have that quirky, weird tone to them anymore. Angela, Laura and Maria look so grey and generic. Don't hate James' looks, tbf, the first look was a bit misleading.

Remake looks pretty good, my only complaint so far is Angela, she looks off

The changes they made to Angela looking at the knife and Maria already prove that they understand nothing about what they're adapting. And then they're proud to showcase their inability to properly scale heads, a lack of any hair physics, and nurses holding pipes instead of it being glued to the palm?

Yup. Definitely one I’ll be following, but I won’t be buying it like I was going to. Not day one anyway.

Silent Hill 2 is my favourite horror game of all time and one of my top 10 favourite games period, and I think you guys are clowning with some of these statements. The devs don’t know what they’re adapting because of how Angela looks at the knife? How pedantic are we going to be here? I don’t even think it’s possible to keep the atmosphere of the original intact, and most of that has to do with hardware limitations of the past, and seeing everything through the fuzzy lens of a crt tv. And yeah the atmosphere in the original is one of the things that makes it so special, but it’s also attributed to nostalgia. Maybe this will be a dumpster fire, but a lot of the footage they showed looked solid. If I had to criticize anything it’s how janky enemies look when you’re hitting them. I’m hoping they make that smoother, but I mean, at the same time the combat in OG 2 is hilariously bad as is.

Yes, there is zero reason to change the structure of that scene. Changing the lighting and the angle dramatically modifies the mood and makes the context of the scene wildly different at a glance. If they completely miss the point and have zero awareness of basic artistic aspects of the composition of that shot, that incompetence is going to be everywhere. And we can already see it elsewhere. Media illiteracy? Covering up Maria entirely misses the point of that character. Technical blunders? Angela's sweater has less detail than the 23 year old game. Angela's hair lacks any physics as she looks at the knife and is floating. Sure, it's plausible the gameplay may be smoother (I'm not holding my breath), but at what cost?

New combat footage looks better than combat footage they showed months ago, so it seems like they’re tweaking things. I’ve enjoyed all of Bloobers games I’ve played (Observer, Medium, Layers of Fear, Blair Witch), so I’m confident this could be a good reimagining

Yeah idk what to say man, all of that seems incredibly pedantic to me lol. I don’t expect this to beat the original in atmosphere… I honestly don’t even know how they’d achieve that on modern hardware because again, the aesthetic merits of SH2 are directly tied to a budgetary problem as well as viewing it through a totally different resolution. What little I did see of this remake seems to take some artistic liberties (like every RE remake so far, and all of those have been good despite losing a lot of that original atmosphere and dread (minus 3, this game was so disappointing), but they also seemed to get a handful of things right. The environments looked pretty great to me and the fog, while not as all-consuming as it was in the original, is surprisingly dense and I was happy to see that. I think they’re going to continue tweaking a lot of things, because the game is still 5 months out, but we’ll have to wait and see. The soundtrack is what I’m most curious about rn. I want to know if Akira just remastered most of the original tracks or if he dramatically reworked them. Rly hoping it’s more of the former

Guys, can you please stop coping, wasting your time etc? It's a game made by bloober team, authors of some of the worst games in recent history (even Observer was mid), this remake looks like a disaster and 100% will be a disaster.

guys, can you please stop enjoying and being excited for things that I'm not? I'm the authority on what is and isn't good and I want you to be pessimistic and miserable like me.

Orrr... perhaps it's simply made by Bloober, which guarantees mediocrity. I find it amusing that so many people are excited about this remake. It will only generate plenty of entertaining content of them crying, as if the trailers weren't already obvious enough that this is going to be awful. I'm buying $100 worth of corn to pop for the event.
