One Mil is just a Weezer song and I absolutely fucking love it. how did you not shoutbox me warning me about this song sowing

I sent a messenger pigeon, he should arrive by November to let you know.
Also I got more of a FOB vibe from 555, not sure why, but Weezer also fits the bill.
(Additionally, add me to the camp that thinks CTL is great)

I just saw a comment of yours way back in the thread afraid of over-selling it once comments began to come in. But nope, this lives up to the hype.
These guys have done a lot of pop-rock right. It's what they're most notable to the general public for, who will point to Bleed American if asked if they remember this band.
But that's always been not so interesting to me. God-tier Jimmy Eat World has for me always been when they craft catchy tracks that are layered with melancholy or bittersweet melody/catharsis. It's why Clarity & Futures have always been my favorites, especially the latter.
But then I'd listen to a...Invented, say, or bits of Integrity Blues, and just get bored with the drawn-out slow, sad stuff. I need Adkins harmonizing with himself with up-beat sad tracks.
So this comes as close back to that sound as they can while also doing something new.
I could be off-base but that's my interpretations so far. Love this so much.

555 definitely has some FOB going on and sounds like it was produced by a different team from the rest of the album lol. One Mil is the one that straight sounds like a cut from White imo

holy shit what did I do to deserve the bridge of Diamond

Integrity Blues sounds a lot closer to Futures than this does to my ears, which is why those are my two favorite Jimmy albums. This is up there, but a clear notch below my fav 4 (IB, Futures, BA, Clarity)

Also I totally unknowingly compared Congratulations and Pass the Baby to Rage Against the Machine, then this was published in the last 24 hrs:

initial verdict: they fucking did it again. Jimmy albums always come in twos, like CTL was the anti-Futures, Damage was the pendulum swing from Invented and so on. IB ends leaving you wistfully staring in the middle distance thinking about life; this ended with me flipping my fucking shit in the dark with the dumbest smile on my face at the ending of Congratulations. why do I ever doubt the best and most consistent band this era has??

Ugh Diamond has my favorite chorus of theirs in ages
|
| |
Yeah tbh this was considerably better than I was expecting, and my favorite since Futures

I think the reception to this brings more joy to me than the actual album lol
Yeah that lyric is amazing Rowan, almost forgot about it in the shadow of those beauteous opening verses about snow and sunsets and memories gahhh yeah this is better than Invented and CTL, fuck it.

not better than Invented but I'd say on par with Integrity Blues which is a fucking solid turnout indeed. just wish half heart was on here and Recommit was like 3 minutes longer

To follow an album as incredible as Integrity Blues with this is quite the feat. This is so fucking good, I can see it becoming a 5 in the near future.

I've thought this before - and not to ruin 555 for anyone who enjoys it - but how similar is that opening progression/beat to Taylor Swift's 'Welcome to New York'? I can almost hear Tay Tay chiming in 15 seconds into it with "Walkin' through a crowd, the village is a glow"
|
| |
Idk but the chorus of 555 reminds me of U2 in a bad way
