Agreed so hard on this, although return to BLD random chamber vibes would probably be most refreshing. Most of the best KD involves Mia to some degree, shame she's out of the picture

What are you guys talking about? There is no returning to anything. They'll just do something completely new next.

I totally forgot about the Stained Glass EP. So good.

FYI Toby also made an EP under the name Piggy Black Cross with female singing a couple years ago, like industrial avant-goth darkwave with the rhythms of Plastic House on Base of Sky, it's sweet.

^Up'd my rating for that one to a 5. So good. And the new artwork is pretty cool. Its less goth influenced than most all darkwave out there and instead is more new-age/idm infused, which is an interesting and enthralling combo.

Kayo Dot/Toby just posted this over on Facebook:
"I’m shocked to discover that touring gets harder every time. Not really what I expected. Committing yourself to a fringe band is a tough life. We’re on day 6 now and the responses to the BLASPHEMY live set have been great, but it’s tough to get people to show up. If you’d like to help make our experience a little easier, and keep us on tour, there is a donation bucket over at http://cash.me/kayodot and It’s my birthday in a week, too, if you need another excuse. 🙂 love you folks, thanks ❤️"
I remember when I stepped into the show I went to, Toby was checking the guest list, and asked the girl at the front door "all these people are here for Kayo Dot?" a little surprised. It wasn't a lot of people, that's for sure. Kayo Dot aren't really a band that are going to draw large numbers, though. Every time I've seen them it's always been like 30-40 people, if that.

Kayo Dot (or just Toby) but with female vocals sounds amazing. The vocals have always been my biggest problem with the band. I just don't like clean male singing in general, particularly when it's relatively "normal". I have an easier time tolerating the super experimental styles like in an eye for a lie. Phobos might be a 5 if I were really into the vocals.

@Faded Sun Even at the Brooklyn show I was at, they didn’t draw huge numbers even for a Friday the 13th night (30-40 people sounds about right unfortunately).
A month before, I saw Toby do a solo show where he played They Are The Shield & Madonnawhore stuff and when I told him at the KD show that was a great set he kinda looked surprised cause he told me “Nobody went to that show!” Looking back it’s kinda true cause I think I might’ve been the only one there that wasn’t friends w/any of the musicians who played that night.

That kind of shows that sputnik is not very representative, right? because the viewing numbers on Kayo Dot albums aren't that low compared to other bands which attract a lot more fans.

Sputnik isn't representative of anything other than metal music. The site (as a whole) could give two shits about most other genres and barely covers them unless something popular or press-related comes up. I'd even go as far to say that these days this site is for black metal mostly.

You don't like singing in general, meaning you only listen to death growling and screaming, unless a woman is doing the singing?
I really like Toby's voice, he's really developed into an excellent and versatile singer since maudlin and pushes himself especially on this album.

^ Well I listen to Kayo Dot anyway, but it's despite the vocals, not because of them.
But yes, harsh vocals and/or female cleans is how everyone should do it.

Toby's vocals have always been fantastic. But honestly? I prefer the maudlin days when he was technically "worse" at singing.
Anyway, An Eye for a Lie is a great song, and this is a great album

It seems like Eye for a Lie is the most polarizing track for some listeners. I personally love it, some of the best vocal highlights of the album. He really delivers one hell of a performance towards the end of the song.
