Not inflated. They show the love. Something that cold analysis don't.

There are moments where I agree with Sput, moments where I agree with RYM and moments where I agree with the Archives...

I think it's basic statistics. The bigger the sample size, the more "accurate" the userwide rating. Diehard fans get offset by troll ratings and haters, so in the end we get a better picture of the final product. Not that it should affect one's enjoyment of the music.

Bigger sample size, RYM allowing you to rate albums as 0.5, and no descriptions for said ratings (classic, superb, etc.) allowing you to be a little more selective with your higher ratings as they can mean whatever you want them to

You can always deconstruct that Pika...cause the sample size issue is not as easy as you put there... specially when art, or in this case music is concerned. If you listen only to hip-hop and you come across some metal, you ll rate it low and that may not be an accurate evaluation of the album...like on IMDB f.e. class B movies always have weaker ratings, or a good series have to be at least 8plus, and you should have that into consideration.
What I like on here is that you have a smaller sample size but somehow more speciallized genrewise.

Yes, but you will always have selection bias. And it hardly affects the ratings, because if, say, a person strictly listens to electronic, they probably won't go out of their way to low-rate all metal albums. They will rate some, yes, but that won't significantly affect the average of said albums. Especially considering how you've also got people who 100% discographies. So again, this gets easily offset.

In fact, selection bias, if anything, is a problem here on sput, because the userbase is split into three-four categories at best. Not a good sample, is it?

I tried to use RYM but the site itself makes me puke almost instantly ahaha
But I agree with you Pika, in here you have to take into consideration the type (or types yeah) of sputanimal when you see an AVG.
But with broader samples you have to consider that AVG's can be watered by it as well.

Not really, no. You can also argue the converse is true. It depends on the site demographic. How many diehard fans do Slipknot have? What if half of those people were all registered on the music website? The new album would quickly climb its way up to the top 10 albums of all time. The opposite also applies. However, in general, these things have a tendency to cancel each other out.

"Diehard fans get offset by troll ratings and haters"
This isnt an evening-out, the difference between diehard fans and trolls/haters is that one group is genuine about their rating and one is not.

Sput, on the other hand, has a pretty well-defined demographic - bar the influx of the new users that has been taking place for the past couple of weeks. My guess is that it's related to the release of the new Slipknot album. The majority of these people are going to disappear into oblivion after three-four months at longest.

Who says you can't genuinely despise an artist's music? Like, can't stand it at all? There's no such thing as objectivity anyways.

And by the way, you get people who basically say, "Hey, you can't two this, it's a great album!", and then bump their rating by a point or even more than that.

"Not really, no." Yes it is because its art, and I prefer to get why someone loves something, I don t care much about the accuracy. The inflation on Sput is good enough for me.
I agree with everything else you've said.

I think you can brace yourself for another major influx when the new Tool album drops.

Yes, that's what I said right from the start. If you get triggered by people's album ratings, be they too high or too low, you might wanna get your head checked.

Idk, who does say that? Trolls arent totally basing their score off of their own opinion, they rate lower to spite the people who do like it.

rym is a shithole full of tryhards and jaded divorced 40 year old men who sit in the corner of the pub waiting for someone to talk about 13th floor elevators to but actually everyone else is out enjoying life and having meaningful experiences rather than their only hobby being 1ing the new taylor swift single
