Yeah I think the interview really sparks a kind of discussion this album deserves, especially after all this NSBM and fascist nonsense.

Oh and speaking of riffs, those on Imitatio Dei m/m/.

and also they completely recorded Synarchy of Molten Bones twice cause the first take wasn't icy enough for the bois. I thought it was an enlightening read worth discussing

Indeed, ''Art, or at least honest art, is a lot of trial and error''', I quite agree.

In my humble opinion, the more rational we try to be, seeking answers in interviews or in possible political guidelines of an artist, the further we are from the truth, which in this case isn't expressed in words, but through music.

The Furnaces of Palingenesia is great music and only that should be evaluated, nothing more.

''Fwiw, I completely agree with your analysis, Eons.''

I wrote a review for the album and if that's what you're referring to, I will be editing the review somewhat after I digest this interview and explore more. I would like to get a more accurate analysis on the albums overall intent which the interview was designed to give clues and insight about.

This part of the interview is probably one of the most important parts to pay attention to:

''The intensity of the audience’s experience will depend on the energy and time they’re willing to invest in the exploration of a multi-faceted work. It was actually a sign of respect for the potential reader to present certain established events or processes, spiritual and theological, historical or psychological in such a way – eventually leaving him free to experiment and explore them based on his personality, knowledge, preferences and biases, or downright prejudices.''

"People are really fucking weird. They react to that interview like this guy is some snob for reading philosophy, or how he speaks. They once again interpret him negatively, just like they did the record's intent. I remember a few people here claiming the band were Neo-nazis and were aligned with Mikko Aspa politically. I remember saying that this wasn't the case. I feel somewhat vindicated now. I will be awaiting apologies from various user on this topic. "

Quoting philosophy isn't bad. Quoting 40 different philosophers unnecessarily and being so far up your own ass that you can't answer most questions coherently also technically isn't a problem, but it makes for a trash interview and Im sick of stupid assholes pretending like it doesn't because it'll make them look smarter if they convince everyone it's actually easy to understand.

Also you're either naive or dishonest to actually buy their explanation of their relationship with Aspa. They just have a cordial relationship with someone to provide vocals for their music while being ideologically opposed enough that they might kill each other were they to talk about their ideologies? Sorry dude, you're fucking stupid if you can't realize that's bullshit, it's the same as bands that say they're "apolitical" to get around associations with fascists. Instead of actually being apolitical it's their way of declaring which side of the aisle they're on while satisfying the naive in their fanbase.

It is intentional to namedrop all of those people to give more insight and further reading for the reader. It is CRUCIAL and I am glad he included all of them. Gives better insight into the album. Instead of assuming things about the band's intent, I will actually read about it.

they talk like 90% of black metal bands do. it's corny as hell but we'll chalk it up to the ~aesthetic~

I think the part about shooting is being misread. they are saying other members of the “second circle” are politically opposed and if not for the art “they” would be shooting each other. the band believes they are above such discussions and politics because of their philosophical beliefs. as someone said before it feels like they have their heads so far into the books and philosophical ideas that they are ignoring reality. I appreciate the interview though.

also as for the part about name dropping “40” different philosophers, yeah that comes off as pretentious but it gives us who they read and the ability to do our own research into what they’ve read and what they believe etc and they clearly appreciate people who do that and have managed to reach out to them regarding the research

"I'm just surprised no-one seems to be struck by how utterly self-absorbed their defence seems to be"

that's because 90% of the fans don't care, and I don't blame them really. they're ultimately the fans of the music, not the singer as a person. for all we know, their anonymous drummer might be a nazi serial child rapist, but nobody really gives a fuck

I guess that's fair given that the lyrics and metaphysics are apparently far more optional than the band seem to think. Paralectus slapped, looking forwards to this now.

You're splattering the two issues together for some reason. You can't really get anything from all the metaphysical and occult and philosophical mumbo jumbo because there's just so much crap they throw in their answers, ultimately probably harmless and easy to ignore.

But the fact of the matter is they make very shitty, uninformed answers about politics and art ruining music before claiming to be apolitical, yet apparently ideologically opposed to the neo nazi that performs vocals on their songs.

You can easily ignore most of the interview as harmless nonsense, not the first black metal band to give these kinds of trash answers or even the hundredth, but to take that particular one at face value or refuse to acknowledge the very obvious dogwhistles? You're a naive asshole or a dishonest one when you do that. No in-between.
