first time i heard this i was in awe of the atmosphere. like, i know bm is all about the atmosphere but this nailed a certain cavernous tolkien vibe that i know a lot of bm tries to achieve but never really fully could

It's seriously uncanny how vivid the images are that this album can create. I've never been so immersed in music, besides with Agalloch and Paysage d'Hiver

this style was so instantaneous for me tbh

Atmosphere is key in bm that is without question. Its just that I always felt that Summoning's approach was a bit too indulgent, with a lot of frills yet with little meat to the bones.
Yet again synth heavy bm and me go together like guacamole and ice cream

I like Dol Guldur a little more than this tbh, but they're both classic bm albums.

Dol Guldur is pretty much the album I associate the band with.
You could probably guess my feelings about it
