Every track here blows me away. How much time have I wasted ignoring these guys? I always assumed they were a mwY copycat but this album is probably lined up as my second favorite of the year so far.

Wildlife is far and away my favourite but it only recently clicked for me. This is rivalling the debut, though.

I know mwY like the back of my hand and there are definitely major similarities - at the very least, they both have post-hardcore roots and the singer shouts/talks the same way. I need to listen to more La Dispute though before I can draw further conclusions. Footsteps at the Pond might be my favorite right now but pretty much everything after that Rose Quartz intro is straight fire.

The mwY comparisons are apt insofar as there are obvious similarities between the bands. But La Dispute has enough of its own voice and personality that it is a disservice to see them only in the shadow of mwY.

Absolutely; and that's what I'm realizing now. I probably formed that opinion like 10 years ago after listening to one La Dispute song in the middle of a mewithoutYou binge and never gave it a second thought. These guys clearly have something special going on and I'm excited to see how this album grows (it's already obliterated me).
