yeah you're probably too old, this does a lot of things really well. put on a good pair of headphones are really try to listen to everything that is going on. there are lots of small things to catch.

also idk if it's fair to just call this a "pop record"

i'll tell you what bugs me. those vocal effects on every track, and that singing style. I've heard it a lot in recent years but I do not prefer it. here it really puts me off. and the lyrics, stylistic choices, seem off-putting to me. nonetheless I will probably give it another go here soon.

Hey that's fair, everyone has their own pet peeves and whatnot.

@doof I guess I don't really see why the pebble thing is laughable, pebble is often used in place of "Earth" or "this planet." Used in that way to represent how minuscule and insignificant our problems are in such a vast universe.

The production is great and this has some really interesting stuff going for it, but listening to it front to back is a pretty boring experience.

I think a lot of us on the same page:

- there’s something intriguing about this that draws you back

- there’s something offputting and tiring about the approach when applied to every song here

idk man, I hear plenty of differences track to track. of course there is consistency in subject matter/tone, production, etc, but each song has completely different highlights that stand out to me.

I agree with Doof to an extent, but I keep relistening in hope that it all clicks. The pieces are all there for a really beautiful record but they haven't come together for me

even so, there's enough good stuff for a 3.5

yeah I didn't listen to these guys at all prior to five days ago, and I can already confidently say that this would have made my top 5 had it come out last year

it’s the vocals more than their effects for me, they’re just a bit wishy washy

I love the vocals on this. Aaron sounds incredible ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I like Aaron generally, it's not his voice that bothers me. I think this record is really homogeneous, which could be forgiven if I loved the songwriting as much as y'all seem to

I can understand that. For me, I find the songs are great on their own but in context is where everything just works so well. From Suddenly into the piano on Night Figures, for example.

Sowing, I agree with you on the lyrics of Skywriter. The song itself just doesn't excite me. It's placement on the tracklist doesn't help much either.

that satisfying feeling when your rating brings it from a 3.9 back to a 4.
