Yeah I completely agree, I think the genre is in it's prime right now, and I think it's in part because it's matured out of a lot of it's tropes that defined it in the mid 00's when it started gaining traction.

Something ridiculously special will have to come out to top Time for me as AOTY.

Oh yeah. I forgot actual good metalcore came out this year. Just go listen to Rolo Tomassi.

(Although the band kinda rides that line between post hardcore and metalcore; either way it’s much better)

Album definitly has a unique sound and is pretty diverse as far as metalcore goes. Cleans can be irritating at times but Garrett's harsh vox and delivery is extremely good. Loving Visible Unseen right now.

lmao just realized they have footnotes in lyric videos and people find that to be amazing for some reason. actually almost nobody is even talking about the music, probably because it's boring and generic and serves as the background for vocals for like 98% of the album.

Yeah, painfully agreed there. This is just such a big step down for me.

Over halfway through and it feels like an Oh, Sleeper/Northlane blend, especially with those cleans, the screamed delivery, guitars, and breakdowns. I'm really looking for anything nuanced, but I can't really find it... If someone wants to point something redeemable about this band/LP, please do. It really just feels like most of metalcore. :/

Time will die is good but its arguable whether its a metalcore album, and there's been very few landmark releases in recent years within the genre. Even though I like this, its certainly not one.

Rolo Tomassi, Frontierer, Sectioned, Greyhaven, Palm Reader, Hopesfall, Chamber, and Vein were all great for metalcore this year. A few others I can't think of right now though

There's a few guys loving this that love metalcore, I don't really see any over-exaggerated hype for this record
