Bumped this bc the first half is just so amazing. This would've been a great EP or something if it went
Hang On Me
Pills
t/t
Sugarboy
Los Ageless
Happy Birthday, Johnny
Smoking Section
or something
7 tracks 26 minutes

Just listened to this twice through start to finish and can reconfirm this is the motherfucking best thing she's ever done.

I was so disappointed when this came out, but I've grown to like it quite a bit. Mainly because I've never paid too much attention to the second half of this record, last two in particular are some of the best in here.

this grew on me over the last couple years like crazy
I now consider this to be my favorite release of hers

Shes gone full phantogram over the last few years

Dye your hair, wear weird shit, become pretentious, release worse music.
|

Pretentious...I know people hate the word but it's so fitting
|
| |
There was a time when it was overused here, often poorly, so I stayed away from using it, but I think it's safe to toss it out there occasionally now and this is an instance that I find it fits

Yeah tbh I listened to this and that's a decent word to describe the demise of st Vincent lmao

I'm with you re. this album in studio, but from what I heard from my mates who caught her live after this dropped, it all paid off in that context
|
| |
Yeah but to be fair the bigger you are as a pop star the bigger your budget is gonna get for live shows and the crazier they are gonna get. I mean look at lady gaga, her music is absolute shit but you cant deny its epic that she can come out singing in a fucking mech suit lmao
|
| |
Like I feel that if you are an award winning pop star you have absolutely no excuse to put on a bad live show. People dont even expect you to actually sing or play instruments as long as you blow their fucking minds with sensory overload
|
| |
tbh i like a lot of the stuff here, but some of it is just plain cringe. I really hate Pills.

potsy with the correct hot takes

Don't disagree with this at all, but I feel choosing to make that the focus of your craft is a somewhat considerable mitigation for a drop in quality of studio output (especially since this sound/album followed up on the success of her s/t to put her on the map for a wide number of people). Obvs not a scenario I'm personally thrilled by, but I vaguely respect the direction she's taken her career

Saw her last year on this tour; she was singing over a track but her voice was beautiful. Speaking of “pretentious”, I know most of the peeps on sput are way too pretentiously refined for my next comment:
She looked hot as hell!!!!!!!
|
| |
Well she is a babe for sure cant argue that
