There was a time when it was overused here, often poorly, so I stayed away from using it, but I think it's safe to toss it out there occasionally now and this is an instance that I find it fits

I'm with you re. this album in studio, but from what I heard from my mates who caught her live after this dropped, it all paid off in that context

Don't disagree with this at all, but I feel choosing to make that the focus of your craft is a somewhat considerable mitigation for a drop in quality of studio output (especially since this sound/album followed up on the success of her s/t to put her on the map for a wide number of people). Obvs not a scenario I'm personally thrilled by, but I vaguely respect the direction she's taken her career
