This is definitely my least favorite of theirs, tho it's also due for a reappraisal

Though I kind of need to revisit their catalog because I went through it pretty quickly a few years ago and didn’t spend a ton of time with most of the albums.

There’s a few duds like Dory and Hold Still but as an album it’s solid as fuck. Doesn’t quite reach some heights they reached in yellow house and shields but overall it’s probably their best

Veckatimest owns and is what got me into the band to begin with. Ready, Able is still my favorite GB song.

I'd probably go:

Veck>Shields>Painted Ruins>Yellow House=Horn of Plenty

I also have spent waaaaay more time with my top 3, so maybe I should do some revisiting as well. Would be a nice discog run.

I love that "ready, able" is split evenly in two and both halves are just chef kiss man

outside of on a neck, on a spit, yh is just a 'good' album imo. far, FAR weaker than both veckatimest and shields.

I know im always bringing up shit from different albums (lol at how little we've touched on Painted Ruins the past few pages) but man that fuckin beginning part in "on a neck, on a spit" where the harmonies just SHINE and then it fades out. the ah-AHHHHHHh

Yellow House and Horn Of Plenty both have a wonderful atmosphere that these later albums lack.

Everyone's so impassioned about Grizzly Bear all of a sudden, what a strange sight.

This album has been my collection for years and still every time one of these songs comes on shuffle, I have to check and see who it is so I can remind myself to spend more time with it. One of these days I will do just that.
