tbh dark is the river of man ended up growing off me in the end. ended up finding it really plodding and anticlimactic. finding myself appreciating the other tracks more. forged iron crucible and by the light of a black sun have some very good riffs.
i just don't think it's enough though. this is such a decidedly unambitious album, it's so comfortable, predictable and even when judged on its own merits it doesn't quite hit the mark when you know how capable everyone is in the band.
it's really clear to me that it was don and co that gave john's riffs the context and songwriting strength and cinematic structuring to really make it shine and without that it's basically just a jigsaw puzzle of good riffs and textures without the glue. when you then consider that don wrote a lot of amazing riffs himself it really doesn't lend well to this project to have that missing and to play on the fact that this is apparently the "same band" - it really isn't, both in concept and quality.

They remove any quotes or scores from him because they don’t consider him a legit critic. Fantano did a video about it and looks at the wiki discussion about him and their reasons are beyond stupid lol

I think Wikipedia may want to reevaluate qualifications in the near future. He has made a career as a critic on YouTube, and I'd imagine it's a full time job for him, but I could be wrong. Not exactly sure how you'd quantify qualifications, but he's got about 1.4 million more subscribers on his channel than I do, sooo...
