Not as bad as some are saying IMO, but not even close to good. Almost like a boy band, but often sounding out of place.
It's been quite some time since I last heard/read the relationship between linkin park and a boyband.

Apparently #linkinponies is an entire subculture, stylising the band as My Little Ponies. That's kinda boybandish I guess.
Then again, I think comparing stuff to boy bands stopped being relevant in 2002. Back then solo albums by boy band members didn't get called the next coming of Bowie.

they've always made pop music, this one just happens whole heartedly embraces the genre's current sound (which i guess M2M kinda did with it's odes to coldplay and snow patrol, which were big at the time of the albums release). but even if all of their other albums had this sound, they'd still be better than it. the songs are just ridiculously weak to begin with

eh, I get where you're coming from, but comparing the overall reaction to this album with the one to After Laughter makes me think most of the negativity comes from the fact people genuinely didn't enjoy this.
oh well, I listen to lots of kpop that people here probably would hate so I can't judge your rating. :^)
