Instruments remind me of Leprous, where very little/nothing of note is happening, leaving a vocal-heavy performance. Fortunately for Leprous their vocalist is a fucking beast and this guy is just kinda alright

I really don't know what people's problem with the lyrics are. I bet I could make any lyrics you present to me seem lame if I chose to interpret them that way. Do you think Daniel just made up the lyrics without putting any genuine emotion and thought into them? They're obviously quite personal and make sense to him. I don't really care if they make sense to me or if they seem "cheesy", I still get the feelings he's trying to convey in the songs.
