or use baritone guitars. or have creative drum fills. or have songs that sound like death from above, or black honey, or the window, or salt and shadow.

I feel like I should hate about half of this, but it's catchy and I can't.

Gotta give this another chance but I was just thrown off by some of the gross sounding melodies. Great singing on this, but the melodies are just so cringe and bleh

If people were comparing Wake Up to Nickelback/arena rock in general, I'd probably agree. But when people compare songs like Hurricane, Death From Above or Black Honey I just don't hear it at all. One thing this record has going for it (IMO) is that Thrice regresses back to its post-hardcore roots a bit, rather than the post-grunge influence from m/m, so the delivery and overall style of the record just don't warrant all the Nickelback comparisions.

this albums sound design is really heavily reminiscent in post-grunge mid-2000s mainstream rock and alt rock, so its really not surprising when comparisons are made to a band like Nickleback as theyre the kind of band who used similar design and are the most recognizable compared to the thousands of bands from that period.

also foo fighters are pretty lame, yeah. you could buy their greatest hits collection and forget everything else they ever made.

Can we please stop mentioning that band in this thread, even the most radio friendly songs on here don't sound like them. Now Foo Fighters comparisons I can understand, but like you said, most of these songs are far from accessible arena rock.

the chorus to Wake Up genuinely makes me think of Five Finger Death Punch

the rest of the album sounds like nobody but Thrice
