Safe as in "afraid to put in a screamed vocal line longer than 2 seconds and more often than once on the entire album" maybe

I love the exercise in restraint and all, but I thought the screamed vocal was too little too late. That's what makes Cages special now I guess.

As for the instrumentation, they've definitely improved. Like the screaming, I wish they'd use the djent parts sparingly in songs. I'm not a big fan of drawn out djent spanning entire sections of songs, especially when it's the main riff. It gets boring. I'd prefer it marginalized to a small section- like the bridge or something. It's far more effective that way.

in any case its not safe just because of an absence of harsh vocals, considering altered state had literally no screams and is their least safe effort - they just preached to the choir with this release without adding a thing to their sound

its not terribly offensive to use it that way here because it refers to delivering something that interests an existing fanbase without attempting to branch out and appeal to outsiders

O.k. heres my opinions, I love Polaris. Hexes, Survival, and tourniquet are such a beautifull trio, I think the songwriting level has gone up from their previous releases however some of the raw power and emotion is missing that was present on 'One'. Instrumentation wise its so much more sophisticated, than one and altered state. I feel the vocals lack a little 'character', theyre flawless but theyre just kind of there. I think the 'Djentness' has been toned down, its still there but now it works as part of the whole in a seemless integration which is more accessable and doesn't pigeonhole this album. does anyone care what i think, no i didn't think so, maybe that answers your question BeyondCosby

@matt Thanks for your opinion. To counter it I felt like Altered State really struggled to hit emotional moments past "Nocturne". The first four songs on that CD really hit the gut but afterwards that CD just kinda seems to be forgettable. I felt like with Polaris every song has a rise and fall and within it a sweeping range of emotions. I may just have to write an unnecessary review haha.

@beyondCosby. I totally agree about altered state, first four songs were great then the rest is just ok. Polaris has more consistency, almost every song is strong.
