Wow dont know why I had this as a 2.5. They combine dark ambient and the dissonant dso like sound really well. Especially "Consummation"

this is pre cookie cutter atmospheric bm but it's executed (near) flawlessly.

DSO really don't sound like VBE OVdeath. Black metal was always dissonant anyway. I think Immortal's Pure Holocaust is a source of allot of the sound. I would argue DSO had their own sound from kenose onward. Their work is much more mathy than VBE. Many people would say they were extremely derivative of VBE or Gorguts but I disagree. And yes, Akhlys are not like dso. I just use them as a point of reference. Its like namedropping pink floyd in a review for Amon Düül or any psychedelic band.
